Walk on the Beach

The world can thunder like a freight train loaded.

Emails and echoes down a dead-end road.

But I whistle low, and Mimi,, grabs the gate,

Peanut and Bubbles are spinning circles at our feet.

Two  little puffs of white fur on a  shoreline of sand,

Her hand in mine like the Lord’s own plan.

Every wave that crashes is a worry set free,

Salt in the wind and Mimi’s, laughing with me.

It’s just a walk on the beach,

Mimi, Peanut and  Bubbles, and the sky out of reach.

Let the whole world break like the shells on the shore,

Sun’s gonna drop, and with them I’m never bored.

As long as her smile and their fluffy hair keep the beat,

I’m standing on gold with the tide at my feet.

It’s just a walk on the beach,

And nothing can bring me down.

Peanut dives headlong at a piece of kelp,

Bubbles barks like the world needs help.

Mimi bends over laughing, her brown curls blowing wild,

The sun paints her face like a promise with a smile.

We don’t need headlines, don’t need a crown,

Just three small shadows on the edge of town.

Troubles roll in, then right back out,

Our love’s the only tide I care about.

It’s just a walk on the beach,

Mimi,,, Peanut, and Bubbles, and the sky out of reach.

Let the whole world break like a shell on the stone,

Sun’s gonna drop, and I’m never alone.

Long as her smile and their fluff keep the beat,

I’m standing on gold with the tide at my feet.

It’s just a walk on the beach,

And nothing can bring me down.

Let the waves all tumble, let the clocks run dry,

Let the talking heads scream at the sunset sky.

I’ve got Mimi’s hand and two clouds on paws,

And Small Fry is watching from the sky because

He sees us walking where the sunset  turns red,

Tail still wagging in the clouds overhead.

No storm on earth can outrun this view—

Four hearts, one shore, approach a night brand-new.

Time may slow the dogs to a gentle stroll,

But the ocean keeps singing the song of our soul.

Mimi’s brown eyes stay forever the same,

Peanut and Bubbles still chasing the flame.

When my final footprint washes away with the foam,

Small Fry will meet us as the sky is our home.

Just , Mimi, the dogs, and the tide rolling free—

That’s all the forever I’ll ever need.

It’s just a walk on the beach,

Mimi, Peanut and Bubbles, and the sky out of reach.

Let the whole world break like a shell on the stone,

Sun’s gonna drop, and I’m never alone.

Long as her smile and their fluff keep neat,

I’m standing on gold with the tide at my feet.

It’s just a walk on the beach,

And nothing will bring me down.

No, nothing will bring me down.
