Best mattress for dog & pet owners (2026 guide)
Hi, we’re John and Mimi. In our house the dogs are family, and Peanut, our head comfort tester, has an opinion on every mattress we bring home. If your dog or cat sleeps on the bed too, the mattress has a few extra jobs: shrugging off pet hair, surviving the occasional accident, staying put when someone jumps on, and leaving enough room for everybody. Here’s what to look for, which of ours we’d pick, and today’s prices: same factory models, lower price than other online retailers.

The short answer
- Choose a zip-off, machine-washable cover. Most of our mattresses have one, so pet hair and dander can go in the wash instead of living in the bed.
- Put a mattress protector on day one. Our mattress listings say “liquid damage of any kind does not qualify for a warranty replacement.” A protector is the inexpensive way to keep one accident from costing you a mattress.
- Look for edge support and a non-skid bottom if your dog jumps on and off or likes to sleep on the edge.
- Size up if the pup sleeps with you. A king gives two people about 38" each instead of the 30" each on a queen.

Pet hair and dander: why the washable cover matters
Most of the mattresses we sell come with a zip-off, machine-washable cover, which the listings describe as “easy to clean” and as reducing allergens when laundered. For a pet household that’s the single most useful feature, because hair and dander that work past the sheets end up on a cover you can take off and wash, not in the foam.
The care instructions are simple: wash the cover on a cold, gentle cycle with like colors and air dry without heat. Don’t dry clean, bleach, iron or steam it. Rotating the mattress now and then also evens out wear if your dog always sleeps in the same spot.
One honest note: our 12" Sofinity hybrids come in a soft quilted Tencel cover, and those listings don’t describe the cover as zip-off or machine-washable. They’re lovely mattresses, but if easy washing is your top priority, start with one whose listing says washable cover. The 10" Rose, 8" Daisy and 12" Lavender Firm are also listed as hypoallergenic and antimicrobial.
Accidents, spills and your warranty
This is the part every pet owner should read. Every mattress we sell has the manufacturer’s 10-year limited warranty for defects, and the listings are clear: “Liquid spills do not qualify for warranty claims,” and they recommend “a waterproof mattress protector … to prevent liquid spills from penetrating the mattress.” The care instructions also say not to let moisture saturate the mattress.

- Non-skid bottom fabric. The 10" Rose, 8" Daisy and 12" Lavender Firm list non-skid bottom fabric, which helps the mattress stay where you put it on the frame when a dog launches on or off.
- Patented edge support. Many of our mattresses list a patented edge support system that provides side support, a stable sitting edge and, per the manufacturer, 20% more sleeping surface. If your dog claims the edge or the foot of the bed, a firmer edge helps.
